Two pages, quarto. On aged paper, with several closed tears and loss at foot and remains of stub in margin, but with text clear and entire. While at Whitburn she had hoped to 'make personal enquiries after the health of [her] friends at Jesmond on a morning visit', but as this is not possible, she must either 'relinquish all hopes of enjoying the pleasure of seeing you', or 'by frankly telling you how I am circumstanced, appear to make a very unwarrantable demand upon your hospitality', by inviting herself and 'the two young friends who are the companions of my journey' over for 'a share of your family dinner'. 'As I understand that you are only a short distance from Newcastle we shall by sleeping there more be able to prosecute our journey without much loss of time'.
