British art historian (1866-1939) whose papers are now in the Courtauld Institute, London; Turner specialist and founder of the Walpole Society. Both items one page, quarto, very good. Both docketed and bearing the Society's stamp, and signed 'A. J. Finberg'. First letter enquires whether 'a full list of the recipients of [the Society's awards] has been published, or whether the materials for the compilation of such a list are in existence & are accessible to research'. Is engaged with his wife on 'a new dictionary of [^ English] artists, & we would like to include the information which would be derived from such a list in our records of the lives of the artists concerned - particularly the earlier artists who worked between 1760 & 1800.' Comments on Redgrave's 'Dictionary of Artists of the English School'. The second letter thanks Wood for his 'great kindness in sending me the List of Artists who have recd. Premiums &c. from the Society of Arts. It will be very useful & I hope you will accept my warmest thanks for it. | I will consult your 'History' - which I find is in the London Library.'
