Manning begins by apologising for the 'long delay in fulfilling the promise to send the inclosed letter of Bishop Rickards on the subject of Sir Bartle Freres policy in the Zulu War'. He explains that he has been 'much pressed by business & also absent from London'. He concludes by urging the recipient not to trouble himself to return it.

Autograph Note in the third person, on the back of a note from J. H. Hall, Ruxley House, Bromley, Kent, asking for an autograph.
