As one of the authors makes clear, the collection was assembled by Gatty himself, for forwarding to Lord Kimberley and others in support of his application. It is on aged paper, with all texts clear and complete, except for two small central holes (affecting two words) in one of the printed testimonials (Wake). The ten items are attached to one another by a brass pin in the top left-hand corner.

Printed letter, with names, by the 'Assistant Masters of Eton, Winchester, Charter House, St. Paul's, and Harrow Schools' to their headmasters, urging a 'reconsideration of their announced intention with respect to the Public School Latin Primer.'

4to, 2 pp. Bifolium, with each printed page on the recto of the leaf. Good, on aged paper. With part of the previous mount adhering to the blank reverse of the second leaf. Five objections are given, including the fact that the primer is 'unattractive in its present form'.

Dean of St Paul's Cathedral (1815-90). 4 pages, 16mo. Heavy discoloration, and rust damage from paper-clip. He is glad that he can address his correspondent as Archdeacon, praising him for having shown 'so much judgement & ability in important positions in convocation'. Goes to great lengths declining an invitation, explaining that for health reasons he intends 'to be as far as I dare get in the South, perhaps to Sicily'. Signed 'R W Church'.
