CONVENTION

From the papers of Sylvia and Robert Lynd. A scarce and historic document: copy in the NLI, and three on JISC (LSE, Oxford and BL, the latter also possessing a copy of the ‘Fortieth Thousand’). On the cover ‘Sinn Fein’ is written without the accent on the ‘e’; while the heading to p.5 has it with the accent. Cover carries a crude outline map of Ireland, crossed by two thick lines, with caption ‘The Cross of Gold’. A frail survival, on discoloured and worn newspaper stock, with chipping to edges and dogeared corners.

2pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In fair condition, lightly aged, with closed tear at foot of fold line. The recipient is not named. Hale begins by stating that he has both of the recipient's telegrams, and thanking him for his 'promptness and readiness to forward my wishes'. In the meantime he had 'determined that the simplest solution to my troubles was to give up my Topeka appointment, as I was at liberty to do.

Octavo: 31 pp. Stitched and unbound, with front of the original printed wraps, which bears the title-page, still present. Text clear and entire, on aged paper with some dogearing and chipping to top outer corner. Front wrap creased and lightly stained, with a little chipping, but with text clear and entire. Pencil ownership inscription in contemporary hand at head of title. Reproduces the proposed amended constitution and various resolutions regarding a referendum on the subject.
