On one side of 17 x 11 cm leaf extracted from an autograph album. The page is orientated in portrait shape, with Robeson's inscription in dark-blue ink, slanting downwards in a strong and attractive style. It reads: 'Best wishes | Paul Robeson | My mother bore me in the Southern wild | And I am black, but O, my Soul, is white. | P. R.' (The quotation is from William Blake.) Beneath this, also slanting downwards, and written in green ink, is the signature 'Lawrence Brown'.
