The bill had received a second reading on the previous day, 10 May 1899.

James John Holroyd, who holds the living of Abberton in your Lordships patronage', that Westbury should 'include that preferment in the lot of those which it is intended to offer for sale. The amount value of the living is given at £289 and the population as 279; - it is in the county of Essex nr. Colchester'.
