Mahan has been described by the military historian John Keegan as "the most important American strategist of the nineteenth century'. The present item is the valediction of a letter, on 4.5 x 12.5 cm. slip of paper. It reads: 'Sincerely Yours | A. T. Mahan'. In good condition, lightly aged and slightly creased. On reverse, in a contemporary hand: 'Captain Mahan U. S. Navy. | Author of | Influence of Sea Power on History | a great friend of mine [last word deleted]'.
