1p., 12mo. In good condition, on lightly aged paper with minor traces of glue at head. Addressed to 'Sir John P. Boileau Bt.' Reads: 'My dear Sir John, | If you are disengaged on Friday next I wish you would gratify me by dining with us "en petit comité" to meet M Quetelet & one or two friends'. 'M Quetelet' is the Belgian astronomer Adolphe Quetelet (1796-1874), founder of the Brussels Observatory.

Autograph Letter Signed ('W H Russell') from the war reporter on The Times William Howard Russell to Sir Roderick Impey Murchison, praising him fulsomely on the creation of his baronetcy.

On piece of paper roughly one inch by three and a half inches wide. Good, with glue staining to reverse. Reads 'Yours sincerely | Rod. I. Murchison | P.S. | <...>. On reverse (which is docketed in pencil) 'I <...> | that when Lord Palmeston died he had in his <...> 80 applications <...>'.
