TREDEGAR

The title is 'Hanes alarus am 26 o golliers a gollasant eu bywydau yn pwll glo Bedwellty, gerllaw Tredegar, Dydd Gwener, Mehefin 16, 1865.' This may be translated as 'The woeful tale of 26 colliers who lost their lives in the Bedwellty coal mine, near Tredegar, Friday, 16 June 1865. 4pp 16mo (15.5 x 9 cm). Paginated [1]-4. Bifolium. 2pp., 4to. Signed 'Faithfully yours | Eva . C . E. Lückes. | Matron.' In fair condition, lightly aged. On two leaves attached with a brass stud. A circular letter, addressed to 'Miss Winifred M. S. Parry, || 69, Vernham Road, | Plumstead, S.E.' Having received the references and agreement form, she informs her that her name 'has been added to our list of accepted Candidates with a view to filling a vacancy which will occur at our Preliminary Training School on June 1st 1912'.

12mo, 4 pp. Bifolium. 57 lines. Text clear and complete. Fair, on aged and lightly-creased paper. Weekes is by far the most likely of the four Royal Academicians whose initials correspond to those of the recipient of this letter, the others being Henry Tamworth Wells (1828-1903); Henry Woods (1846-1921); Hubert Worthington (1886-1963). Well-written and entertaining letter, addressed to 'Dearest old Boy'. Begins with a discussions of the merits of 'Scilly as a sketching ground'.
