BULLETIN

A scarce piece of English theatrical ephemera, illustrative of the restrictions imposed following the Second World War. From the papers of W. Macqueen-Pope. (See his entry in the Oxford DNB.) The item is a duplicated bulletin of six closely-typed 8vo pages, on three loose leaves. The text is complete and clear, but the item is aged and with wear to edges. The first page is headed by the following, in capitals, above the address and phone number of ‘The Stage’: ‘According to latest directions from the Ministry of Fuel & Power this is for private circulation only and is distributed gratis.

1p., 8vo. Photocopied in black on light-green paper. In fair condition, creased and lightly-aged. Small photograph of Paul Harvey beside the title, above the following introduction: 'In a recent column Mr. Harvey, a noted commentator and journalist, strongly defended the law enforcement officer. With his permission the Bulletin reprints this message which we think will be of interest to our readers.' Harvey's piece, reproduced over three columns, begins: 'Don't credit me with this mongrel prose; it has many parents; at least 420,000 of them: Policemen.

74pp., 12mo. Stapled pamphlet. In good condition, on lightly aged and worn paper. Three page table of contents at front, and two page index in small print at back. The thirty-one items in good condition, on lightly-aged paper, each with punch holes at spine, and all attched within a grey printed card folder by blue string. The bulletins (nos. 24-33, 35-38) are all 8pp., 12mo, except for No.33, which is 12pp., 12mo, and hence total 116pp., 12mo, with occasional illustrations.

Andrews, 'Circuit for Reception on 20 Metres Band' by E. J. Simmonds, 'Key Crashes', 'G2W.J.', 'Experimental Work With Mosul'. The T. & R. Bulletin ran from 1925 to 1942. Ten of the fourteen in 4to, and around 20pp each; one 18pp., foolscap 8vo; the last three 16pp., 12mo. Leaves of advertisements (2pp., 4to) inserted. Each issue carries an editorial introduction, with that of October 1884 (no. 85) eight pages long, and boasting that it is 'the most complete catalogue of American Official Geological Reports ever published. The previous lists of Prime and Marsh have been consulted, but very many have been added during the period covered by Prime'.
