From the papers of the journalist Henry Charles Shelly (sic), who would appear from the letter to have been connected with the Glasgow periodical The Baillie. ONE: ALS (24 February 1891). 3pp., 12mo. In good condition, lightly aged. He gives him permission to 'print the enclosed extract in the Modern Church, but not before April 1, as I mean to use it in a lecture in London next month'. He is sending him 'Genelli's Dante Illustrations', and regrets that 'they have been rather badly treated'. He will send him 'a copy of Physical Religion and I need not say how glad I should be if Mr.

2pp., 12mo. In fair condition, on aged and lightly-creased paper, with traces of glue from mount at head of second page. Annotated at head in a contemporary hand. If mention of his name 'can in any way help you for the Welsh University or for any other post, by all means use it'. Regarding the 'next years cataloguing', plans are only in consideration, 'with the preparation of the estimates at end of the summer'. He explains that in the previous year these were 'framed by Dr. Smith', and that her application 'came just too late'.

English writer (1866-1945). The letter is 2 pages, 8vo, and the notes are 9 pages octavo. Neatly written on one side each of eleven matching leaves, all ruled with blue lines. In good condition overall, but with the paper somewhat discoloured, creased and ruckled, and with some rust stains from a paper clip and closed tears. He is sending as promised 'the evidence of the bishop's mitre having come down to us from very ancient times'.
