CARD: Addressed to 'Barry Duncan Esq. | 11, St Martin's Court | London | W.C.2'. In good condition, lightly aged, with 'Puppet Master' letterhead in red ink, with illustration of Mr Punch. He thanks him for being 'attentive' in sending cuttings. LETTER: 1p., 4to. On aged and creased paper. With cancelled 'Puppet Master' letterhead. Addressed to 'B. D.' Sending payment for hired items, and discussing a translation 'done a week ago for Salzburg Marionettes'. Speaking of Edinburgh he writes: 'I like this city v. much - some fine bookshops - but no playbills'.

He writes: 'Gentlemen, | I beg leave to inform you, that I shall not have occasion for the Room I have taken at the St. Martins Lane Model Academy, after Michaelás Day next in the present year.' Both items are in an envelope addressed to the Duchess at 3 Belgrave Square. The envelope and its contents are on aged and creased paper. LETTER: 2pp., 12mo. Bifolium. Knowing that the Duchess is 'a well-known artist', she is offering her 'services as a model'. 'I was permanent model to the late Lord Plunket [sic] and have been painted by Cathleen Mann, Simon Elwes, Sir John Lavery, T. C. Dugdale, David Jagger and several other well-known painters.' She describes her appearance and asks to be granted an interview. POEM: 2pp., 12mo. In pencil. Unsigned, but clearly by Maitland.

The collection is laid down on the rectos of 43 leaves of a 4to folder, on pages printed with borders and headed with the name of the Museum. Items in good condition, with the usual aging to newspaper cuttings, in worn folder. Folder in original buff wraps with, printed on front wrap, 'Compiled and Edited by WILLIAM E. APPLEBY', and with the subject given in manuscript as 'Atomic Models & Machines (MEL) Zeta.' Last page with note by Appleby: 'Zeta | Science Museum | Made by | [signed] William E Appleby'.

Printed on one side of a piece of wove paper, dimensions 22 x 14 cm. Text clear and complete, on aged and lightly-spotted paper, with minor wear to extremities. Headed 'Under the Patronage of the Nobility and Gentry.' 48 lines of text, including positive quotations from the Observer, Christian Advocate, Sunday Times and Albion and Star. Describes ten aspects of the exhibition, lettered A to K, including the conveyance of the ore 'to the surface by a --- (G) --- POWERFUL HYDRAULIC MACHINE, first in kibbles, through a perpendicular shaft, and lastly in waggons drawn upon an inclined plane'.
