None of the boats and captains named in the present item are present in contemporary Navy Lists, so they would appear to be merchant ships. 2pp, foolscap 8vo. Aged and worn, with slight loss along edges and faded to a small portion of text. Folded four times into a packet, named (on the reverse): ‘Respecting Arming Pilot Boates / Account of Stores’. The whole of the recto is filled with text, divided into six rectangles in two columns of three rectangles each, under the heading ‘Account of Sundry Stores received from the Pilot Boates’.

Two pages, 12mo, fold mark, some foxing/mottling obscuring part of the subscription (Iam [?]), otherwise text is bold and clear. I thank you warmly for your kind letter with its enclosure - Your Speech at Cardiff is of much interest & the Society you advocate is doing valuable work. | I fear it will be impossible to me to attend your meetings as I expect to be out of London then. Should I find it possible [to get?] I will endeavour to be at the meeting.

Two pages and one page, 4to, good condition. A. The agent details the expense of travel for Miss Pirrie, Pirrie's use of a coupon, baggage allowance (for S.S. Arcadia), enclosing a traveller's Guide [not present], concluding with stamped signature Henry King & Co.; B. Concerning the Bill of lading for Pirrie's 3 cases, shipped by the S.S. Coromandel. A paragraph asking for an Invoice is crossed out, and a sentence added: The goods have been duly cleared and forwarded. Note from source of the letters: F.W.

Five maps, four of them fold-outs, together with duplicated text on two leaves, stapled into 8vo pamphlet of buff printed wraps with 'PORT OF MANCHESTER' and logo on the front, and printers' slug on back. In fair condition, lightly aged and worn. The five maps include three fold-outs: the first, coloured in blue and light and dark green, titled 'Principal oil docks and installations with their road connections' ('For particulars of sites on the Company's Estate application should be made to the Company's Land Agents | Dunlop, Heywood & Co.

3pp., 8vo. Bifolium with three pages of text, with title on reverse of second leaf (printed crosswise for folding into packet). In good condition, lightly aged and worn. The first page is headed 'Collier Dock - Isle of Dogs', followed by a list in two columns of the twenty-four directors, and solicitor's details. The 'Meeting of the Proprietors' was held at the London Tavern, Bishopsgate Street, 5 April 1827, and there was only one topic.

3pp., large 8vo. Bifolium. In good condition, lightly aged and worn. Headed 'Original'. Docketed on reverse of second leaf: 'May 1835 | £75. 7. 5. | Richardson a/c for Sir James Harington decd | paid | paid additional balance - £1. 16 -'. The ninth baronet died in 1835, the tenth baronet assuming the title at the age of fourteen. The present document was evidently produced to clear the old account. It contains numerous items, dated between 10 January 1834 and 8 December 1835.

Unpaginated, folio, red calf, worn edges and spine, virtually every page either written on or with typescript pasted on, with other relevant enclosures. Minutes recorded from the first meeting in 1883 to 1946. Presumably this was the Company responsible for publishing the "Shipping World and Herald of Commerce" (Gresham Press, 1883ff - the Company operated out of "The Gresham Press Building according to a piece of printed ephemera enclosed - including relevant circulars and financial statements).

[28]pp., 4to. Stapled into grey printed wraps. Illustrated with photographs; centrepage spread of matching tables giving 'Weekly Potato Shipments' from Tasmania to Sydney, in 1937 and 1956. On glossy art paper. Both prospectus and inserts in fair condition, on lightly aged and worn paper. Stamp of the Van Diemen's Land Company on front cover, with ownership inscription 'C. C. Carter'.

1p., 12mo. In fair condition, on lightly-aged paper. Addressed to 'Sir Donald Currie K.C. M.G. | S.S. | Sonakin'. He apologises to Currie for finding him away from home when he called: 'I only wish I had asked you to make an appointment'. He concludes with thanks for his 'kindness about the mail', and in wishes of a pleasant voyage for Currie's party.

Both pamphlet and reservation in fair condition, with light signs of age and wear. Pamphlet: Titled: 'Sir Walter Runciman's Dinner, Connaught Rooms, Great Queen Street, Kingsway, W.C. | Friday, April 11th, at 7.30. | Alphabetical List of Guests with Allocation of Seats and Plan of Grand Hall.' 26 + [1]pp., 12mo. With fold-out 'Plan of Grand Hall | Showing Numbered Tables'. With lightly-rusted staples. Fifty-two tables of the great and the good, with the fifty sitters at 'Table "A"' including Lord Denman, Augustine Birrrell, H. H.

All five items are 12mo, 1 p, and in good condition, with the text entirely legible, but with slight discoloration to the extremities and to the blank second leaves of four of the letters. Letter One (17 May 1898): Concerns a letter by Sir William White, regarding which Knowles has not written as 'it seemed to me there was nothing to write about - & I am compelled to write so many letters!' Knowles 'did not at all think that Sir W. White intended any disparaging reflection in your competence by saying that you were <?> not a man "technically trained in naval architecture" '.

Eight 16mo leaves ['A4' at foot of recto of first leaf]. Sixteen unpaginated pages. Unbound, in contemporary marble wraps. Aged and slightly stained, but good overall. Dramatic fold-out handcoloured engraving of distressed men in rowboat in turbulent sea, roughly four and a half inches by five wide, captioned 'CENTAU. | Situation of part of the Crew who are leaveing [sic] the Wreck in a Boat.' Closed tear in engraving unobtrusively repaired on reverse with archival tape. Small stamp of the Webster Collection, with manuscript date 1924, on reverse of print.
