Stamps of the London Borough of Southwark Reference Library. As Emery explains in the preface, the first bibliography of Bennett's works, produced to coincide with the centenary of his birth. Divided into 25 sections including 'Film Scenarios', 'Operas', 'Poems' and 'Bookseller's Catalogues', and ending with its own bibliography. An uncommon item.

Bowers' article, 'an attempt to understand the workings of Shakespeare's tragic effect', is on the first seven pages. He has inscribed the head of the first page: 'For Harry Levin - | With my compliments - | Fredson Bowers'. From the papers of the American critic Harry Levin (1912-1994). Now scarce.

The author states that the volume is the second edition in his preface, 'the First having been published by the late Arthur Gyles, in 1886'. The object 'is primarily to supply a work of convenient size for the use of Second-hand Booksellers, which may facilitate intercourse with their confreres in our own and other countries'. Three pages of advertisements at front, and a further fifty-one at rear.

Scarce: no copy of this offprint on COPAC.

In eighteen sections, including 'Auctioneers of Literary Property - United States', 'British Publishers', 'American Representatives of British Publishers' and 'Book Clubs in the United States'. Scarce.

21pp., 8vo. On title-page: 'This Lecture, the substance of which forms part of an unpublished work, is reprinted for the Married Women's Property Committee, with the permission of the author.' In good condition, lightly-aged, no wraps, disbound. Two addresses written in pencil on reverse of last leaf, and a name in ink.

16pp., landscape 8vo. Stapled in cream printed wraps, printed in black red, grey, yellow and blue, with caricature by Guillaume on cover showing a lady performer on a chair with a glove puppet of a gentleman. Worn and aged, with rusted staples, and wrappers detached. The sixteen pages of the catalogue are printed in light-blue and yellow on shiny art paper, and consist entirely of captioned photographs of waxworks, with no accompanying text.

Blue printed paper wraps, 39pp., 12mo, sl. worn. edges sunned, minor foxing, covers sl. away from staples, comprising Preface by Austen Leigh, an introduction and an Alphabetical List (of pupils in that period. A signature of a descendant, "E.A.B. Barnard is on front cover, while the clipped signature of R.A. Austen Leigh is glued to the titlepage. An Autograph Letter Signed "R.A. Austen Leigh" is tipped on the inside of the front wrap. dated 17 Jan. 1945,addressed to "Venn", 1.5 pages.

Author's inscription (with slight damage to last two words) on front free endpaper: 'The Roy. Agricultural Society from the author'. Six copies on COPAC.

14pp., 12mo. Disbound without wraps. In good condition, lightly aged. Poem of seventy five-line stanzas, arranged in four parts.

15pp., 8vo. Unbound pamphlet. Aged and worn. In manuscript at head of title-page: 'Dr Ainsworth from the Author'. In a short preface Soden explains that several members of the Association have asked him for a copy of his address, and that, although he does nto think it worthy, he has 'therefore had a small impression printed for private circulation only, in order to save the trouble of transcribing, [...]'. Scarce: only three copies on COPAC (BL, Bristol and Aberdeen).

All four numbers in good condition, in original grey printed wraps. Totalling 79pp. (No. 3 paginated 23-46; No. 4 paginated 47-66; No. 6 paginated 85-108; No. 14 paginated 221-231). Broster is named as editor of the last number, the others giving no information.. Note: A contribution to the background of Victorian science and Darwin, a lampoon of Huxley when seeking election as Rector of the University of Aberdeen and an attack on Darwinism. Scarce.

44pp., 4to. Stapled. The complete magazine, in printed wraps with green masthead, on shiny art paper, with attractive 'modern' layout and numerous illustrations. Incongruous image on cover of girl and lamb. Glennie's article is on four pages, with a photograph of the author accompanied by a brief biography (ending 'He came to Aldermaston in 1955 and is now in S.S.C.M.') and three photographs of the 'IBM 7090 Electronic Data Processing Machine', one of them small, and the other two each half-page, and accompanied by a lengthy caption.

Large (35 x 25 cm.) sumptuously-printed stitched pamphlet, in printed wraps. 16pp., with one additional collotype plate (stamped 'Specimen Colour Plate') and one tipped-in plate (of the binding), both coloured, and three full-page half-tone plates. Subscription form (The British Book Centre, Inc., New York), in red and black at rear. Aged and worn, with creasing to front cover. Includes three-page 'Commentary on a Unique Volume' by Winchester, and the first three pages of Wilson's text, two pages listing the contents, and specimen pages.

In poor condition: on brittle and aged high-acidity paper, with chipping to wraps and front cover loosening. Inscribed inside the front cover. No. 44 of 72 contributions is 'J. NEEDHAM - L. WANG - D. J. PRICE (INGHILTERRA) - Chinese astronomical clockwork.' Scarce: no copy on COPAC or in the Wellcome collection, and the only copy on OCLC WorldCat at the BNF.

Stamped in red at head of front cover: 'SPECIMEN COPY.' Announcement at foot of front cover: 'This magazine is not to be introduced into England or its colonies nor into the United States of America.' The first eight pages carry advertisments, as do both sides of the back wrap.

A handsome production, as one might expect from one of the nine founders of the Grolier Club, with a two-page introduction followed by a full-page reproduction of the Ascensius printer's device, and 47 examples of pages set in various point sizes of Cushing, Ancient Roman, Jenson, Satanick, Louis XV, and Century Roman. No copy on COPAC, six American and one French on WorldCat.

8vo: 36 pp, paginated [17] to 52. Disbound and unbound. Grubby, but with text clear and entire. Outer bifolium in poor condition. Lacking stitching, so with each bifolium loose. Mainly consisting of lists of individuals receiving awards.
